Short answer

To make Takis street corn cups, char frozen sweet corn in butter, fold it with mayonnaise, lime, chilli and crumbled feta, then spoon it into cups and top with crushed Takis just before serving. It takes 15 minutes and serves four. Use Takis Chile Limón for mild heat or Xtreme Lime for none.

Esquites are Mexico's street corn in a cup: warm kernels dressed with mayonnaise, lime, cheese and chilli. Takis come from Mexico too, so a handful of crushed rolled tortilla chips on top is a natural fit. It adds crunch, salt and a hit of lime.

Everything here is on the shelf at Villa Market, including the Takis, which are exclusive to Villa Market in Thailand. Feta stands in for cotija, the crumbly cheese used in Mexico.

Spoon the corn into four small cups. Top with the remaining feta, a generous spoon of crushed Takis and two whole Takis each. Serve straight away with lime wedges, while the Takis are still crunchy.

Make ahead and storage

  • The dressed corn keeps in a covered container in the fridge for up to a day. Serve it cold or warm it briefly in a pan.
  • Add the Takis at the last minute. Once they sit in the dressing they soften within minutes.
  • Fresh corn works too: cut the kernels from 3 cobs and char them the same way.

Frequently asked questions

What are esquites?

Esquites are a Mexican street-food snack of corn kernels served in a cup, usually dressed with mayonnaise or crema, lime, crumbly cheese and chilli. This version adds crushed Takis for crunch.

Which Takis flavour works best on street corn?

Takis Chile Limón, which is mild and already tastes of lime. For no heat at all, use Takis Xtreme Lime, labelled Zero Heat on the pack.

Can I make Takis corn cups for children?

Yes. Use Takis Xtreme Lime and leave out the chilli powder. The cups are then tangy and cheesy without any heat.

Where can I buy Takis in Thailand?

Takis are exclusive to Villa Market in Thailand. You can buy them at Villa Market stores and online at shop.villamarket.com.

Can I make it ahead?

Make the dressed corn up to a day ahead and keep it chilled. Crush and add the Takis just before serving so they stay crunchy.
